ELECTRICITY
In Vienna, the standard electrical system operates at 230 volts with a frequency of 50 Hz. Power outlets typically accept Type F sockets (Schuko) and Type C plugs are also commonly compatible.
If your devices use a different plug type, you'll need a suitable plug adapter. For devices not rated for 230V, a voltage converter may be necessary. However, many modern electronics (like smartphones and laptops) are dual voltage and only require a plug adapter.
TIPPING
In Vienna, tipping is customary and appreciated, though not strictly mandatory. In restaurants, it is common to leave around 5–10% of the bill if you are satisfied with the service, or simply round up the total.
In cafés, bars, and taxis, rounding up the amount or leaving small change is also standard practice. When paying by card, it is often preferred to give the tip in cash directly to the staff, although in many places it is also possible to add it to the card payment.
